Women with symptomatic stage I or II prolapse [measured by Pelvic Organ Prolapse Quantification (POP-Q)] were randomized to a 16-week physiotherapy intervention (PFMT and lifestyle advice; n=23) or a control group receiving a lifestyle advice sheet (n=24). Symptom severity and quality of life were measured via postal questionnaires. Blinded POP-Q was performed at baseline and follow-up. Intervention women had significantly greater improvement than controls in prolapse symptoms (mean score decrease 3.5 versus 0.1, p=0.021), were significantly more likely to have an improved prolapse stage (45% versus 0%, p=0.038) and were significantly more likely to say their prolapse was better (63% versus 24%, p=0.012). The data support the feasibility of a substantive trial of PFMT for prolapse. A multi-centre trial is underway.Item Reflecting on the methodological challenges of recruiting to a United Kingdom-wide, multi-centre, randomised controlled trial in gynaecology outpatient settings(2013-11-15) Dickson, Sylvia; Logan, Janet; Hagen, Suzanne; Stark, Diane; Glazener, Cathryn; McDonald, Alison M; McPherson, Gladys; University of Aberdeen.Other Applied Health Sciences; University of Aberdeen.Aberdeen Centre for Evaluation; University of Aberdeen.Institute of Applied Health SciencesItem Surgical interventions for uterine prolapse and for vault prolapse : the two VUE RCTs(2020-03-01) Hemming, Christine; Constable, Lynda; Goulao, Beatriz; Kilonzo, Mary; Boyers, Dwayne; Elders, Andrew; Cooper, Kevin; Smith, Anthony; Freeman, Robert M; Breeman, Suzanne; McDonald, Alison; Hagen, Suzanne; Montgomery, Isobel; Norrie, John; Glazener, Cathryn; University of Aberdeen.Other Applied Health Sciences; University of Aberdeen.Aberdeen Centre for Evaluation; University of Aberdeen.Health Economics Research Unit; University of Aberdeen.Institute of Applied Health Sciences; University of Aberdeen.Aberdeen Centre for Women’s Health ResearchItem A theory-informed approach to developing visually mediated interventions to change behaviour using an asthma and physical activity intervention exemplar(2016-08-15) Murray, Jennifer; Williams, Brian; Hoskins, Gaylor; Skar, Silje; McGhee, John; Treweek, Shaun; Sniehotta, Falko F.; Sheikh, Aziz; Brown, Gordon; Hagen, Suzanne; Cameron, Linda; Jones, Claire; Gauld, Dylan; University of Aberdeen.Aberdeen Centre for Evaluation; University of Aberdeen.Institute of Applied Health SciencesItem Tibial nerve stimulation compared with sham to reduce incontinence in care home residents : ELECTRIC RCT(2021-06) Booth, Joanne; Aucott, Lorna; Cotton, Seonaidh; Davis, Bridget; Fenocchi, Linda; Goodman, Claire; Hagen, Suzanne; Harari, Danielle; Lawrence, Maggie; Lowndes, Andrew; Macaulay, Lisa; MacLennan, Graeme; Mason, Helen; McClurg, Doreen; Norrie, John; Norton, Christine; O'Dolan, Catriona; Skelton, Dawn; Surr, Claire; Treweek, Shaun; University of Aberdeen.Aberdeen Centre for Evaluation; University of Aberdeen.Centre for Health Data Science; University of Aberdeen.Institute of Applied Health Sciences; University of Aberdeen.Centre for Healthcare Randomised Trials (CHaRT)Item Two parallel, pragmatic, UK multicentre, randomised controlled trials comparing surgical options for upper compartment (vault or uterine) pelvic organ prolapse (the VUE Study) : study protocol for a randomised controlled trial(2016-09-08) Glazener, Cathryn; Constable, Lynda; Hemming, Christine; Breeman, Suzanne; Elders, Andrew; Cooper, Kevin; Freeman, Robert; Smith, Anthony R.
